Kuwait, I’m feeling homesick!

I grew up most of my life in Kuwait though I was born here in Philippines. I’ve always been feeling homesick because I haven’t been to Kuwait in three years! I don’t know exactly when I’ll be able to go back again… I’ve been hearing and seeing pictures of the changes in Kuwait that I’m dying to go see for myself.

I was inspired to post this because of the pictures I saw from my childhood bff’s dad, Tito Al Manlangit, on his Facebook page. Here are some of them:

I still remember those streets and structures. Not too many changed in this part.. Until…

I’ve never seen that slender, pointy building in the middle finished when I was still in Kuwait. It was probably still under construction when I was there during 2008. Also, I don’t recall if I’ve ever seen that Panasonic building before as well.

That building with a rectangular hole in the middle is completely new to me.

Wow, Kuwait. You’re getting sexier and sexier.

There is still a lot of sandy areas, I see, but it’s less compared to the ones I’ve seen back in 2008.

In Tito Al’s caption of this picture he said, “Overall view of Sharq which is fast becoming a mini-Manhattan of sorts.

Remember that slender, pointy building I mentioned earlier? It’s actually the The Al Hamra Tower which is said to be the tallest building in Kuwait right now. Wow. Just WOW.

This is the United Tower which I’ve already seen when I was still in Kuwait. I always admired this every time we drive by it whenever we go to the seaside for a family lunch out.

Marriott Hotel on the left, Arraya Tower on the right.

Dar Al Awadhi Tower on the foreground.

The landmark that everyone in Kuwait knows about has never changed and still looks amazing are the Kuwait Towers. The last time I went there was March 2008 which was two months before I left Kuwait to go to the Philippines for college.

You always see these water towers in Kuwait because they are scattered all over.

Though Kuwait is a Muslim country, there are still Catholic churches around. The one my family and I go to is the one in Kuwait City.

Ok, here’s the cool thing I love about Kuwait City: There’s a jeepney right across Al-Muthanna building! It’s just a display and doesn’t really go around the city picking up people and dropping them off. But this is located at the intersection where a lot of people drive by so this jeepney is seen by many. It also has the Philippine style plate number on it! Cool, right?! I was so amazed when I first saw it during late 2007, I think, though it’s very common here in the Philippines. Haha.

There’s this building that I saw which was still under construction just before I left Kuwait for the last time. It was a very pretty building. I don’t know the name of this building yet but I’ll ask around. It’s just really nice to see the finished product.

There are still many other things I miss about Kuwait but I’ll save that for another post. Especially the new malls that are there.  Keep posted!  😉

All amazing photos taken by Tito Al P. Manlangit!

  1. Your case is interesting. A Filipina homesick in the Philippines. LOL. Understandably rare. Your childhood bff’s dad makes good photography but what I’m impressed the most is not actually the uber-modernization of Kuwait, but the jeepney! Ang galing.

    1. Yes, that jeepney has been there since 2007, I think. A lot of people took pictures with it when it was first displayed. It’s truly amazing 😀 Tito Al is an awesome photographer.
